Canadian politicians should get this through their thick heads: Indigenous people in Canada are Canadians, and what is good for them, is good for everyone.
Your observations of fact challenge citizens to examine reality more closely. The failings of leftist politicians is especially discouraging as is the boldness of exploitative activities by them.
Can the courts not help? Once indigenous hopes rested on them
Yes, exactly. There is a lot of lip service and symbolic politics, with people posturing. The courts are better, and First Nations and Indigenous people are better able to secure their rights, and the same basic attitude prevails that they are an obstacle, and that instead of Canada and the provinces respecting treaties and keeping their promises, Indigenous people are not allowed to bargain and say no. When a Federal Minister says “they don’t have a veto” that means it’s going to happen no matter what.
Great piece of work! Indeed, our premiers do need this kind of auditing. I sat next to Flanagan on a panel while I was working on my MA some years ago at the UofC. What a disagreeable guy. He was quite the powerhouse within the Calgary School of economic and political policy. As a born and educated American and firm follower of Hayek and Friedman, he was a driving force behind mainstreaming American republican views into Canadian economic and political policy. Again, it was, and still is, the main angst within Canadian society, are we independent with our own views or a vassal state of America?
Excellent report, thank you! Details we will see nowhere else. Fraser Institute is about Economic Freedom and shrinking the size of govt until you can _____ it in a bathtub. Danielle Smith was a F.I. intern. Carney, the American banker, is running a Shock Doctrine, sucking up to USA, in love with fossil fuels and mega-projects while CO2 level keeps rising.
Your book listings on the Winnipeg Public Library catalogue and Goodreads are badly broken. Searching the ISBN on Goodreads nets a completely different book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4292339-notebook
The WPL listing has correct text entries but the same wrong cover as the Goodreads listing.
I think you have forgotten about all kinds of new initiatives between First Nations and government. These projects have been helping create more self-sufficiency.
I think to lumping all Premiers together in their mistreatment of indigenous people is misleading; The guiltiest are CPC/UCP Premiers. Doug Ford, Scott Moe, Danielle Smith, etc. The Oil&Gas group, who strive for more money, all the time…
Why is it misleading? That's just partisanship. Why is it that when NDP governments abuse, neglect and mistreat Indigenous communities that they get a pass?
You have a former staffer for the BC NDP Premier who sent the RCMP into Westsuweten, working at the company building the pipeline, boasting that they write briefing notes for government.
Saskatchewan and Manitoba and BC have regularly been NDP provinces and they have extracted billions of dollars from resources and megaprojects from First Nations communities who are living in dire poverty, and who are massively overrepresented in prisons, while the same governments pushed for "tough on crime" laws that have filled jails with Indigenous people, including children.

Thank you for an eye opening and detailed report.
