Canadians are boycotting Trump’s economy. We’re not buying American products and we’re not visiting America.

Californians, who don’t support Trump, shouldn’t be supporting his economy either. They should be on month three of a complete consumer strike where they don’t buy anything but groceries, supplies, and gas. They shouldn’t be looking for tourists to visit.

Newsom can’t begin to guarantee the safety of visitors to his state, any more than he can guarantee the safety of Californians, visa carrying foreigners, or green card holders.

If Newsom wants to secede from the USA, and California either joins Canada or becomes its own sovereign country, then I think Canadians might be willing to reevaluate. Otherwise, the fight is with Trump’s economy and California is part of that economy.

I could not agree more with this!

To get to California first you have to cross the border which involves US agents potentially confiscating/examining your phone for any attitudes not in support of the Orange Felon.

I would be rejected.

Newsome is delusional to think California is somehow not connected to DC and the Trump regime The only way that will change is if Trump is impeached, or California secedes.

I don’t think American politicians, Democrats included, get it. Canadians are not going back. The trust is broken. A few cheap words won’t mend this broken relationship, and I am not sorry.

Well taken.

And while the case you've made for the seriousness of the situation (and the tone deafness) is on point, this quote: "...that’s what Canadians are up against. We realize it’s not all Americans, but that doesn’t make a difference..." is off the mark. It does make a difference. It makes a difference to Americans and it will continue to make a difference to us as we find some way to right this.

But this "...if Newsom wants to be helpful to Canadians and to his fellow Americans, he’ll take a stand against the blatant lawlessness of the current President to make America Sane and Safe again..." is right on. Action is needed. Disruptive, real action that insists on solidarity and courage.

Fair point. I may amend it to say “doesn’t make a difference to our vacation or spending plans.”

As a California resident, my initial thought on seeing Gavin's ad was that it was not really aimed at Canadians so much as trolling our president. Did it air on Canadian TV? If so I can see it as insulting. But Gavin is eyeing the presidency in 2028, he wants to draw as much ire from the orange orangutan as he can.

I'm flabbergasted at the level of tone deaf behaviors from both the blue and red career politicians.

I also believe that Newsom is supporting the tariffs on foreign films. That likely won't work, but just the fact that Newsom is supporting it, shows that he is willing to throw Canadian film makers, among others, under the bus.

The world is so big I can gladly get a few more places off my bucket list, including a few spots in Canada I haven't been, before I consider going back.

If California is despirate for us they can start a seperation movement.

I fully endorse the general thrust of this, but the Ukrainian part strikes me as extraneous, not least because there are n-many other diasporas in Canada who don’t have any interest one way or another who governs the people living east of the Dniepr.
