I had no idea that google pays humans in the Philippines to sort through sordid stuff and pays as little 314/month. There is so much in this article.

It seems to me that the vast majority of internet users view the "system" as a form of entertainment. They have no awareness or understanding of the complex issues of privacy, nonenforcement of intellectual property laws, and just compensation you explored. I daresay, they do not care about the loss of newspapers as the "fourth estate" that holds authorities to account and plays such a vital role in a democracy.

Your article has validated what I have believed about the Internet disfunction for years now. Serious changes need to be made, as you say, because the unfettered power we have allowed them is destroying society around the world. And is contributing largely to the destruction of democratic governments.
